2010 DSLL Volunteer of the Year

We are happy to report that Kelly Hutchinson has won the Volunteer of the Year Award.  Kelly was very very instrumental in the succes that 2010 Bat-A-Thon(R) enjoyed.  She also was extremely helpful in managing the Snack Shack operations during the Tournament season.  Kelly will be honored at the District 27 Banquet being held in September.  Thank you, thank you very much Kelly.

2010 DSLL Mom of the Year

It is a pleasure to announce that Laura Fogarty won this year's DSLL Mom of the Year award.  Laura was a scorekeeper extraordinaire for both the Boys Majors Cubs and Boys 11 District 27 Champions managed by her lesser half, Keith Fogarty.   Laura also kept score for a couple of the Tournament games that we hosted.  She also was very instrumental in the 2010 Bat-A-Thon(R) as  both a team co-ordinator as well as the Boys Majors Co-ordinator.  I am sure that there were other activities that she performed that we are just not aware of.   Laura will also be honored at September's District 27 Banquet.  Thanks Laura for all that you have done for DSLL.  Congratulations!

IIs 2010 Champions

Congratulations to the Boys 11 Year Old Baseball Tournament Team for winning the District 27 Championship on Saturday July 17, 2010. They beat Upper Providence in a 9-8 thriller to cap an undefeated (5-0) tourney record.  They are off to the Section 8 Tourney at Upper Moreland LL on Thursday, July 22.  Let's all support the New Big Blue in their quest!

DSLL Board Meetings

The DSLL Board will meet next on Monday, September 13th at 7:30 PM at Valley Forge  Middle School - Room 801.  The Board always meets on the second Monday of the month unless a Snow Day causes school closure then the third Monday will be the night.   All are welcome.

Volunteer Verification Forms

Volunteers - Thanks for all you did.  We couldn't do it without you. Some of you asked about the the $25 per 4 hours rebate.  The "Volunteer Verification Form" is under the "Forms" sub tab under the "About DSLL" tab on the top of this home page.  Please fill it out and get it in.  Thanks again and again.

2010 DSLL Tournament Baseball

All players interested in playing tournament baseball this summer should check out the links on our website for tryout dates, by-laws, and requirements to play tournament baseball.  For players selected to tournament teams, we will need Commitment Letters signed by parents and we will require parents to help host tournament games held at Clark.

Players expectations include attending all practices and games as well as showing good sportsmanship.  As our tournament teams face the toughest of competition we need the commitment from our players to make every practice and game and if you plan to be away a significant time from either, we need to know so that we can select our teams appropriately.

If there are any questions regarding baseball tournament tryouts or games, please contact Keith Fogarty, DSLL Baseball Tournament Director via e-mail at lafogarty@comcast.net.

Ed Ruby

Juniors International Team Tryouts

Juniors International tournament team tryouts have been rescheduled for this Monday the 22nd at Valley Forge Middle school 6-730PM.

Depending on the number that want to play, coaches availability, and the interest from the other leagues, then there may be an “invitational” tourney designed for those that want to continue to play one more round and do not make it past the district level This tourney is designed to include first, those that did not play on the International team, and then can be filled with those that want to continue to play a bit longer into the summer. This all happens after the conclusion of district level International play.

To the parents, please be informed that it is expected that your son will be available to make as many practices and the games as humanly possible. If you have a scheduled vacation over the period of the tournament, please let it go so that someone else can fill that position in the lineup who will be available to play.
The tournament will be a double elimination tournament that will start on or about July 5th and run approximately 2 weeks. Might only last a couple of days if you lose. If you continue and win at the district level, the same procedure then is used at the sectional level, then again at state level, again at regionals, and finally at national. Potentially could play the entire summer. Odds are very, very long for that scenario and has never happened to any of our teams or any in the area. We have made it into sectionals but that is a far as any have ever gone at the Juniors level. Just want you to be aware.

This is a tremendous amount of time, effort, commitment and work on the part of the coaches. Please show your appreciation by supporting in any way possible. We will be hosting games as well as playing in them and it may mean we/they will need you to act as the head official game director at a game that our team is not even participating in, as well as some other duties such as field preparation, food supply to the teams following the games, passing the hat or whatever capacity the coach asks for help with. I alone have been putting in 25 plus hours/week supporting Devon Strafford’s program enabling your children to reap the benefits of our wonderful program and most of your coaches are doing the same and more. Please help them in anyway you can!!! This doesn’t happen by accident.
